Keppel Sands, Queensland, greeted us with a stunning vista, a wide expanse of tidal flats stretching out to meet the islands on the horizon.

The air was fresh, the sky was blue, and the promise of a pleasant morning walk beckoned. The view of the town extending along the shoreline was quite picturesque.

We decided to stroll along the beach, enjoying the relative solitude. That is, until we came across a rather startling sight. There, wriggling its way across the sand, was a sea snake.

We gave it a wide berth, of course. One never wants to start a holiday with a trip to the emergency room. It was a timely reminder that even the most idyllic locations have their wild side. We continued our walk, keeping a much sharper eye on the sand. It certainly made for a memorable morning in Keppel Sands.
