August 24th, 2018, found us exploring the coastal town of Airlie Beach, Queensland. After the previous day's somewhat bewildering, albeit tranquil, campsite encounter, we were keen to immerse ourselves in the region's natural beauty. The weather, predictably, was glorious.
We decided that a leisurely paddle around Pioneer Bay was in order. Has been a bucket list for me to be on the water in the Whitsundays and experience the azure waters and admire the flotilla of yachts that bob gently in the harbour.

While Lisa took the helm (figuratively, of course, as steering duties were a shared responsibility), we set off from the beach. The water was so clear that we could see the sandy bottom even in the deeper sections of the bay. It's quite a pleasant experience, being on the water, moving at our own pace.

We even managed to avoid any collisions with the more expensive boats – a small victory, we feel.

Following our nautical adventure, a spot of lunch was calling our names. We found a lovely restaurant overlooking the marina. It provided us with a pleasant view of the many boats coming and going, and we were able to soak up the atmosphere of this vibrant coastal town.

The fish and chips were also rather good, we might add. A pleasant end to a delightful day spent exploring the waters off Airlie Beach.
