Our time at the Kurrimine Beach campground has proven… fruitful. We've made the acquaintance of Don and Lee, along with Peter and Judy, fellow travellers who share our appreciation for a good, low-key campsite. It just so happened that Peter is an experienced coconut harvester, and when the subject of the numerous coconuts overhead arose, a plan was hatched.

Peter, a veritable MacGyver of the campsite, produced a long pool cleaning pole fitted with a pruning saw – seemingly prepared for just such a contingency. With a team assembled, the coconut harvesting operation commenced. It’s amazing what you can find when you apply a little teamwork. Peter expertly retrieved several coconuts from the trees, while the rest of us stood at a safe distance.

Once safely on the ground, we skillfully prepared them.

The resulting feast was, frankly, astonishing.

We were surprised at how much meat one single coconut held. It was a truly memorable experience, the kind that makes this lifestyle so rewarding. Full of coconut, we decided some gentle exercise was in order.

Following our rather decadent coconut-themed repast, we took our canoe down to the beach for a leisurely paddle. The Coral Sea was particularly obliging, presenting us with waters as calm as a millpond.

It was a perfect end to a day of unexpected bounty and delightful company.
