Kuranda is a historical village, famous for its markets, and an attraction we were keen to visit. So, of course, we donned our walking shoes and set out to explore. The markets themselves are a bit of a mixed bag. There were the usual touristy trinkets, but also some genuinely interesting handcrafted items. It's always a bit of a treasure hunt, trying to distinguish the wheat from the chaff, so to speak.

One establishment that definitely caught our attention was the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary. While butterflies might not be everyone's cup of tea, we find them rather enchanting; those fragile, flitting wings are a testament to the beauty of nature. And besides, it was a welcome respite from the somewhat relentless sunshine.

We spent a good hour wandering amongst the butterflies, marvelling at their variety and vibrant colours. It’s quite mesmerising to watch them feed. They are so delicate and graceful.

Some of them seemed quite happy to pose for photographs, much to our delight. It’s amazing to see how these creatures fit perfectly in the landscape.

It’s fair to say we thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Butterfly Sanctuary. For anyone visiting Kuranda, we'd highly recommend a visit. It's a small oasis of calm and beauty amidst the bustling marketplace. Now, if you'll excuse us, we're off to find a good cuppa. All this butterfly-watching has made us rather parched.
