After the relative dryness of the Burdekin, we were greeted with a rather wetter welcome further north. We made it to Cape Tribulation in one piece,

and with smiles on our faces, though who would have thought there would be rain in a rainforest? Apparently, it's not just a clever name. The skies opened up and gave us a thorough taste of what far north Queensland is all about – humidity and torrential downpours.

Undeterred, we ventured out to explore Cape Tribulation itself, enjoying the lush scenery even through the misty rain. There’s a certain charm to seeing a place in less-than-perfect conditions. It adds a bit of drama and certainly makes for interesting photographs.

Leaving the cape, we decided to head back north along the Bloomfield Track. Our next stop was Wujal Wujal Falls.

The rain actually enhanced the falls, making for a spectacular sight. We enjoyed the falls with some of the locals who were happily taking a dip in the pools that form under the falls.
After our day of exploring Cape Tribulation and its surroundings, we made our way back towards the Lion’s Den Hotel. The promise of a hot meal and a cold drink was a welcome thought. We found a comfortable spot and settled in for the evening.
That night, we enjoyed a well-earned rest in the van after an exciting day of exploring in the rain. We followed this with Pizza and beer for dinner. The pizza and beer were just what we needed after a day of navigating rainforest tracks. It was a satisfying end to a rather damp, but memorable, day. We are now considering whether or not we should invest in some waterproof socks.
