The humidity was thick this morning after the rain, making for a very warm start as we packed up and headed south. We didn't get too far before the lure of Crazy Acres Mango Farm proved too much to resist. It is a fantastic little stop, and we decided a mid-morning treat was well-deserved. Lisa settled in with a wooden board of fresh scones, piled high with cream and two different types of local jam.

I didn't miss out either; we shared a slice of rich cheesecake served with a generous scoop of ice cream. It was the perfect way to fuel up before getting back on the road.

Our next stop was Berry Springs, and the water there was absolutely magnificent—crystal clear and perfectly warm. I was keen to get straight in, but Lisa can be a bit of a worrywart. She spotted the standard warning sign about the risk of crocodiles in the area and dug her heels in. She wouldn't swim a stroke, which was a shame because the springs are beautiful. I spent my time wading through the warm water, looking at the thick pandanus and scrub lining the banks.

The water is so clear you can see everything. I spent a good few minutes watching a large fish hovering just beneath the surface, completely unbothered by me being there. Since Lisa refused to budge, it looks like I’ll be the only one swimming as we head into Litchfield if she finds any more of those signs.

We eventually arrived at the Banyan Tree park in Rum Jungle. The park itself is a bit older, but it’s nice and open, which suited us perfectly. For the first time in what feels like forever, I actually felt a light breeze on my cheeks as we were getting settled. I’m really hoping it keeps up through the night; it would be a treat to sleep without having to flick the aircon on.
After a restful afternoon and our usual "pensioner half-hour" nap—which might have stretched a bit longer than thirty minutes—we headed off for a swim in the park pool. Lisa actually beat me to it for once. When I finally made it down there, she was already having a grand old time chatting away with our neighbours. They’re a lovely couple over from New Zealand, and we ended up spending a very pleasant hour sharing travel stories in the water before heading back to our spot for the night.
