We were on the road by 6:25 am, a necessity given the significant distance we intended to cover. The early start allowed us to witness the transition of light over the landscape, which is always a highlight of these long stretches. Breakfast was handled while we were in motion to keep our momentum steady.

The morning sky was a heavy tapestry of grey, but the sun eventually found its way through the cloud cover. Rays of light broke through the gaps, illuminating the silhouettes of the trees scattered across the horizon. It was a stark and beautiful sight that set the tone for the day's journey.

Our progress was efficient. We moved through Fitzroy Crossing with purpose and made a brief, calculated stop at Halls Creek to replenish our fuel supplies. Beyond Halls Creek, the terrain began to change. The flat expanses gave way to more complex geological structures as we approached the eastern reaches of the Kimberley. The road curved toward distant, blue-hued ranges that seemed to grow more imposing with every kilometer.

The ancient history of this land is written clearly in its rock formations. We observed one particularly massive escarpment where the red rock face had been sheared away, leaving a vertical cliff that glowed against the afternoon sky. The vegetation clung stubbornly to the slopes below the precipice, a mix of hardy shrubs and resilient trees that have adapted to this demanding environment.

After traveling 735 kilometers, we finally arrived at Kununurra. It was a long day of travel, but the scenery provided ample distraction from the monotony of the road. We are now settling in and preparing for our next steps toward Jabiru and the wonders of the Top End.
