We decided to try another family outing, this time a little closer to home in Wungong, after yesterday's... well, let’s just call it an "adventure." We needed a change of pace. The girls weren't overly enthusiastic about a bush walk, but Angela, ever the pragmatist, pointed out that fresh air was preferable to staring at screens all day. Fair enough.

The Wungong Regional Park proved to be just the tonic we needed. The landscape was surprisingly varied, a mix of open woodlands and steeper, rocky outcrops. The grass trees, or *Xanthorrhoea preissii*, were particularly striking. We’ve never seen so many in one place. Their skirts of dead leaves and tufts of vibrant green foliage are quite the sight. Jennifer thought they looked like something out of a Dr Seuss book, which is probably about right.

Christine, always the nature enthusiast, was fascinated by the different types of birds we spotted. She even managed to identify a couple by their calls, something we still find impressive. We think Jennifer enjoyed the panoramic view more than the actual walking. It's hard to argue with a good view, though. All in all, a much more successful outing than the day before. Sometimes, the simplest things are the most rewarding.
